Apply to Build
Thank you for looking into helping us create Westeros! Please read everything below carefully.
WesterosCraft is an artistic building server that relies on its volunteers to succeed. You don't have to be an expert at everything. We strive to make the server fun and easy to contribute to. Throughout the application a Maester works with you one-on-one, and the rest of the community helps you along the way as you get accustomed to our builder tools and styles.
If you have even a few of these qualities, we encourage you to apply:
- Construction skills
- Attention to detail
- Willing and able to collaborate with others
- Adaptability
- Pride in craftsmanship, including the willingness to give and accept feedback maturely
Before You Apply
- Read through our Server Rules thoroughly.
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- You should read (or listen to) A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, or watch HBO's Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. You don't need to be a lore expert, but you must be familiar with it.
- Explore other builds on the server, especially newer ones on the Projects Page. This familiarizes you with the building styles you'll need to learn.
- Read through the documentation here on the site so you know what to expect as an Apprentice and then a Builder.
- We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, but the server communicates primarily in English, and we ask that you complete applications in English.
Starting Your Application
Your First Task
Before applying, you need to claim a build plot: your own personal area to build in, and where your application takes place.
- Log into the server and teleport to our application world with
/apply. Once there, run/plot autoto be teleported to your new plot. - The plot comes with in-game instructions for continuing your application. You'll be asked to build an exact replica from a choice of three builds presented inside your plot. Read all the instructions there to move on to the next phase.
Submitting Your Application
Once you've read everything, you can officially apply:
- Go to the #applications channel in our Discord.
- Read the stickied post and copy the application template.
- Fill it out and post your application.
Build Challenges
After your application is posted, a Maester reaches out in your application thread. Maesters handle the entire application process until they promote you to Apprentice. They review your work, issue challenges, and decide when you're ready to move forward.
Each challenge asks you to build something from scratch on your plot in the style of a given location and profession, such as a blacksmith's forge in a Dornish style or a Northern homestead. Challenges vary so you get exposure to different regions and block sets, and they may get harder as you go: a farmhouse first, then a high-class build or a full farmstead.
Most applicants complete at least 3 to 4 challenges, but there's no fixed number. Some people need more time to pick up regional styles or apply feedback. Your Maester tells you what needs work after each one.
What Your Maester Is Looking For
- Builds that fit the regional style you were given, not just builds that look good on their own
- Interiors that make sense for the profession and class
- Clean block work and attention to detail
- Evidence that you're learning from previous feedback, not repeating the same mistakes
Timing
You should hear back from a Maester within about a week of posting. If it's been longer, bump your thread. Once challenges start, take your time with each one and keep up with communication in your thread. Complete each challenge and upload screenshots. The whole process usually takes a few weeks, but there's no deadline.
If It Doesn't Work Out
Not every application gets approved. If your builds aren't reaching the level we need after several rounds of feedback, your Maester will let you know. You can reapply anytime. Practice on your plot, study completed projects on the server, and come back when you're feeling more confident. Reapplicants who show clear improvement are taken seriously.
After Approval
When your Maester decides you're ready, you're promoted to Apprentice. This begins a probationary period where you build on actual server projects under the guidance of a Steward, an experienced builder who specializes in mentoring new members and takes over from your Maester at this point.
Your Steward introduces themselves in your application thread, and the same thread carries through from application into apprenticeship, so your full history stays in one place. The period before you become a full Builder is called Apprenticeship, which you should read next.
